Todays topic is Solar power system assembly to cabin Solar panel system etc It has many names But let’s begin Here are Two 100W solar panels Already assembled before There’s still room for two extra panels These are now connected in paraller I will tell more about it later Let’s continue I ordered this solar panel kit from Ebay Eco-Worthy Solar Expert From there Ordered these from Ebay 100W two pieces The price of the solar power kit is 230€ (250$, 210£) Here is Solar charge controller It’s this which has this LCD mark Don’t know why MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) is newer and better Solar charge controller This mine isn’t as good It’s PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) My solar charge controller I’m not sure why it says LCD This is my spare controller It looks like this This is PWM Old technology Here’s modern MPPT But it’s a lot more pricey MPPT has much better efficiency than PWM (about 30%) Than this one You should use that but my build is on low budget That’s why I bought the cheapest solar power kit Here you can see the controller already assembled Charging as we speak It’s charging Normal car battery But I will change that Before I get my system finished Charge current is now 0.4A You can see voltage and temperature Lights are already connected Let’s turn them on And now we have light This is the main reason for this Solar power system Let’s have a look Of solar panel Solar panels Let’s have a look These are all in progress But you can see how these are connected Here are the specs Of my panels 100W 18V These are Connected in paraller So Double amperage and voltage stays the same That’s why you have to use Larger diameter cable If you have multiple panels in paraller But with my PWM controller You can’t connect These solar panels In series so paraller will do But with MPPT controller I would connect panels In series So amperage Stays low and voltage rises And you could use smaller diameter cables Much cheaper Here it is My system These panels are connected with These aluminium Z mounts Stays sturdy in place Don’t move at all So these are Connected in paraller 2 100W panels So here are both + And – They are connected with Y-pieces In paraller In series This goes to other panel These panels would be connected together +- – +- + For example If you want to connect it In series I can’t do it now But let’s continue This is all temporary You shouldn’t care about it At this moment Let’s have a look To where The cables from solar panels go So those are here I drilled a hole For cables Goes through to here There These cables These ones And then go To here These first two terminals So There You can those these, the voltage is so low with paraller connection 100V (5 panels in series) Would be another thing Here you can see the marking Hard to see + and – from solar panels Second is battery + and – And from here to lights etc but it connected it from here Here’s a switch for it Easy assembly You can connect them to here also But max amperage is.. This is 20A controller so 20A in and 20A out max Inverter must be connected directly to battery Okay, let’s continue So these to cables go to battery From here And go Here All the way To normal car battery All that I could find in short time but it works So I connected it My proper battery bank goes here inside This is only momentary I will use AGM batteries AGM-type That’s it It’s this simple It’s charging as we speak Voltage is 13.9 Now we Check the connections Where I took the manual? They are here Let’s check these I didn’t even open these before assembly but it’s better later than never So here’s How you connect the panels In series or paraller In series Voltage goes up and amperage stays same In paraller Voltage says same and amperage goes up So Both have downsides It depends on solar charge controller which you should choose Both have upsides and downsides With my PWM controller I have to go with paraller It won’t handle the higher voltage My charger Cheap one But if I had MPPT I would definitely go with series connection Okay Let’s continue Here is panel fixing guide And continues Here are Z mounts Now the installation So Here it goes First you have to Connect battery to controller There must be more than 10.5V To get the controller on So you can’t connect empty battery To the controller So 1. battery To middle terminals Then The solar panels To first terminals On the left And finally Load, lighting for example This picture is wrong It doesn’t matter This are marked in different order This goes to load On the right terminals Lighting for example I used side terminal for them Inverter has to be connected directly to battery Controller can’t handle that kind of amperage It might break down or go to protect So here’s the corrent wiring diagram How you should do it This is a good time to check the manual..
