Coastal Now – Solar Ambassadors Help Murrells Inlet VFW

Power for the VFW Post in Murrells Inlet
is now supplied by solar panels. It really helps, not only financially, but
for the environment. The Solar Ambassador student team at Coastal Carolina
University chose the VFW to receive the panels and raised money to make it
happen. Our goal as Solar Ambassadors is to raise awareness of solar and educate
the community about solar. It’s the second project for which the Solar
Ambassadors are responsible, with the first being the VFW Post in Little River.
They really love it. It’s saving them a lot of money. Through crowd-funding the
Solar Ambassadors raised $17,000 for the project just completed. The fact that we
could get $17,000 just meant a lot for all of us and it showed how much the
community supported us. The pattern has now been established for the Solar
Ambassadors to help area nonprofits, one building at a time. We look forward to
installing more solar in different nonprofits and it’s a great way to help
our community. VFW Post 10420 in Murrells Inlet has become an example of
how small steps can lead to major benefits. Their carbon footprint is
going to be very reduced and the whole world shares the same atmosphere, so
they’re helping everybody.
