HS students put skills to the test in SMUD solar power car race


HOW YOU WHEN YOU CAN EXPECT THE RAIN.>>A RACE TO THE FINISH LINE AT COSUMNES RIVER COLLEGE, AS HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS PUT THEIR SOLAR POWERED MODEL CARS TO THE TEST. THREE HUNDRED HIGH SCHOOLERS PARTICIPATED IN SMUD’S SOLAR CAR RACE. THE STUDENTS DESIGNED AND BUILT THE CARS THEMSELVES. THE POINT OF THE RACE IS TO GET HIGH SCHOOLERS MORE EXCITED ABOUT SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY. ONE TEAM OF GIRLS TALKED TO US ABOUT THEIR HOPES FOR A WIN AGAINST THE BOYS.>>THEY KEEP TELLING US THAT WE’RE NOT GOING TO WIN AND JUST BUGGING US BUT GIRLS CAN DO IT TO SO WILL TRY.>>THE CHALLENGES WERE FINDING THE RIGHT WHEELS AND THE RIGHT PARTS TO MAKE IT STAND AND RUN AND GO STRAIGHT 713.
