Real Life Energy Independence : 5 kW Solar System | Electric Car run on the Sun

Hello Friends, Today we are here at Old Faridabad we have with us Mr. Hemant Gupta from Green Energy Solutions He has installed a 5kWh Solar Panel system at his home Let’s find out and know from him about it. Welcome Hemant! Thank you for joining us. Thank you Farah. Tell us about Green Energy Solutions Green Energy Solutions is a Proprietorship firm which we started 2.5 yrs back. The main purpose was; for those who are unaware about Solar Sytems or those paying a huge price and still finding their system inefficient; to help them we started the firm. For now we have installed 8 KW plant in Faridabad Sector 21 in Sector 9 and Sector 22 Like wise other small residential segments are targeted because there is a lot of competition in commercial segments; nobody to educate in the residential segment Keeping this purpose in mind we started the firm Hemant, we see that you have installed a 5KWH Solar Panel System Does it cover all your requirements at home? Yes, It covers all our needs. Initially, while experimenting we started with 2kWh because we were unaware of our needs. As we saw our requirement increase our saction load is 6 kW We upgraded to 5 KW About the system, We installed it for R&D purpose we installed 2KW Mono Crystalline Panels and then 3KW Poly Crystalline Panels In real life situation, on such a small setup you will never be able to find a difference between Mono and Poly Crystalline Panels even in terms of efficiency, you will not be able to differentiate which of the two are performing better This system involves Panels, the structure is hot-dip galvanised which means a normal Iron structure is fabricated then dipped in Zinc for 24hrs that forms a coated layer on it such that even if it’s submerged in water it does not rust. Secondly, The Invertors! On-Grade invertors you have options like Schneider, Delta, Polycab, Havells, Waree I have installed Schneider which is the top brand 5KW Single Phase Grid time Invertor it manages to generate approximately 23 – 27 units by the end of winter it reaches peak 31 units, which is great for these panels as far as efficiency is concerned The cables used matter a lot too not meant for normal AC cables because the cable carry DC currents inside and the AC wires carry AC current outside so if you use AC wires it might heat up Initially, I was also unaware and used 16 sq mm AC Cable because the DC Cables were not available 5 yrs ago My wires used to heat up. As soon as DC Cables were available in the market, I replaced them. There are many brands but the important factor is that the wire should be double insulated which is thicker than the normal wire. It looks silver coated which we know as Zinc coating / Tin Copper coating The difference between Bare Copper and Tinned Copper is Bare Copper gets rusted. Tinned copper there are less chances where there is humid environment and more moisture tinned copper is beneficial to use. As this system is 5 yrs old, the cost then was also very high I spent around 5 L rupees Today you can get this entire system for half the cost 5kW system would cost you 2.5L or 3 L depending on your structure as in normal roof structure then in 2.5L, your panel system can be installed If you have an elevated structure where there is a shadow you might need to increase the height. In that case the cost may increase to 2.7 – 3L depending on your location Right! So Hemant ji, when you started you installed batteries to your system and today you are using net-metering how was your user experience? In an Off-Grid System and On-Grid System there are two basic things to be understood One is cost and second is the batteries that you have installed give you how much backup. In an Off-Grid System, we install more batteries for more backup and incase you feel its short you can add more batteries to your system but that also increases the cost. We calculate Rate of returns on our investment and by when. So in an Off-Grid System you never get the money back. Because even with 5 yrs warranty on your battery. You will have to change the battery after 5 yrs. The cost gets added again and same every 5 yrs. So you don’t achieve your ROI In an on-Grid System, there is no battery cost. If govt. subsidy is available recovery time lessens. Even if no subsidy the amount you have invested gets recovered in 4-5 yrs, depending on your system. Say, 5kW system you recover the cost in 5 yrs. if a 10KW system then recovery period 4 yrs 50 KW or 100 KW big commercial plants the cost recovery is within 1 or 2 yrs Secondly, Batteries used in Off-Grid are Lead-acid, the biggest drawback is you have to charge fully but are unable to discharge completely. If you go below 20% in Lead-acid Batteries they go dead, become useless. If we use Lithium Batteries in Off-Grid System the success rate increases but the cost is an important factor. You will see that the comparative cost is very high to Lead-acid batteries. These considerations are not there in on-Grid System. If Electricity and PowerCut is an issue, you cannot choose On-Grid System In my personal experience, I faced charging issues. I had Off-Grid System with 8 batteries but I would lose Backup in the night. I would have to switch manually to the grid. As soon as the government introduced Net-Metering Policy we realized, these losses I am incurring with discharge and cost of battery can be covered with an On-Grid System. So we shifted the entire 2KW and 3.5 KW system to the On-Grid System. Here in Delhi and Haryana, What is the process of net-metering, the cost and what did you face? Delhi and Haryana have different Government and processes. Different Govt. brings different policies and procedures. Speaking about Haryana, for net-metering you have to visit Hareda website and apply for subsidy then your application is approved by the project officer, after which you install the system. then you have to approach DHBVN. The electricity authority will visit your site They check feasibility. As per the. rules you can install only 90% of your sanctioned load. The transformer could get damaged if not adhered to. So the authorities come and verify. When your application gets approved, the project officer will give a final approval that you can go ahead with the installation without hassles. Another important thing, the policy is new been only 2 yrs so availability of net-metering is an issue. If you have meter readily available you can easily install the net-meter which takes 7 – 10 days If meter not available then to complete formalities it might take 1 – 2 months. It took me 4 months as the policy was recently launched and everyone was equally unaware. so had to run about to get this all done. Speaking about Delhi, the process is easy the government is different secondly, they are promoting these activities Major different between Haryana and Delhi policy is if you have given excess generated energy to the govt. the Haryana Govt. does not give you money, it gets adjusted in the bill at the end of the year, it gets balanced out. In Delhi, for all the additionally generated energy Govt. pays you 50% back by cheque this is a major difference between the two Hemant, tell us about the subsidy. Is it availed from Central or State Govt.? Is it easy to get a subsidy? Talking about subsidy, the Delhi Govt. does not give subsidy. Earlier Central Govt. used to give through MNRE Solar Energy Corporation of India -. (SECI) gave subsidies earlier But MNRE closed these policies 1 – 1.5 yrs back and put the burden on the State. Haryana Govt. used to give 30% subsidy from the beginning now from 20th June, the subsidy has been stopped because, DISCOM – the electricity company is taking over the entire process. We hear, that 20% subsidy will be given For those who have less than 4KW system 40% subsidy will be given. Talking of process, Log on to Hareda website http://www.dnreapplyonline.gov.in/ we submit our application there The application reaches project officer, referring to my area Central Secretariat office Sector 12 falls under me The concerned project officer there visits your home checks for any existing system If there is the feasibility of a new system installation he will approve your application. After approval, you can approach any vendor or you can do it yourself. The system should be according to the policies, rules, and regulations of the government. After installation, the project officer needs to be re-informed for a Post-installation check. to see if it’s according to the policies. The project officer will visit will check and if in order then you will be given a Provisional Certificate after which you can install a Net-Metering system. The role of Project Officer ends here The role of DISCOM starts here The process for net-metering starts once satisfied, he will ask for a final approval from Project Officer to install net-metering Once Project Officer is informed and he approves The net-metering procedure gets completed. In Delhi, there is no subsidy, so you don’t have to go through all this. Directly contact the Electricity distribution company inform them of your desire to set up the system the same process will apply with little different documentation. but there is no subsidy by Delhi Govt. We get asked lot of questions on our YouTube Channel If we live in an apartment Can he install solar panels? If you have roof rights, if you live on the top floor you can do anything. If you don’t have roof rights, like in a society, you would have to speak with Society President or local representatives you can install if they don’t have any issues. Terraces are shared and if you don’t have roof rights the roof is accessible to all you can install the plant if nobody objects. depending on the space on the roof as well. What about an independent user, like a bungalow similar to yours? Its a very feasible system for them One, it’s an independent power generation system roof rights are also with them and if there is no obstacle on the top of the house one can easily install the system. In Haryana, You have to consider, the system you want to install, the capacity should be according to the rules. If the sanction load on meter is 10KW, as per rules you can apply for only 90%. Plus the roof size should permit the installation Another important aspect, in Faridabad, lot of building are old. if your building is very ancient and old can it take the load of the solar system How do you maintain the panels? What is the cost of Maintenance? There is no real maintenance of panel required. Mono-Crystalline Panel is a normal glass never use surf or strong detergent that might damage glass. We have hard water with salts in Haryana that can damange the glass. clean with normal water. Just wipe off with a cloth. Never clean in sun, glass is hot. It won’t break but it might get damaged or you might get an electric shock. Currently, I am touching it safely. it has been properly earthed. Or else you might feel the electric shock. DC Current is stronger than AC current. 5KW AC current is different from 5KW DC current. You might feel DC is stronger. The panels are covered for 25 years. The company gives 10 yrs product warranty. Any manufacturing defect will be rectified free of cost. For another 15 yrs, you get 85% performance warranty which means if your panel’s efficiency is less than 85% they will change it free of cost. In Haryana, for 5 yrs Govt gives AMC free if you have availed subsidy which covers the invertor, structure and also covers panels. Other than this no other maintenance is required. Just cleaning. This is an On-Grid Inverter. It’s from the top-brand Schneider. recognized in the entire industry. This inverter converts DC into AC current. Here you see two strings as I have two sets of panels and a power line. Single Phase Where the proper current is passing. Along with this there is a protection device to protect DC Wires from lightning strike It arrests the Surges reduces the surge and protects the system from damage. The last box is a Solar Charge controller which I used for Off-Grid System. Only charges batteries Converts DC into DC while the On-Grid Inverter converts DC to AC In case of electricity failure, the system shuts down, a safety measure Its called Anti-aligning. The purpose is, if the grid has been intentionally closed, a lineman is working this device should not become the reason for his death. This is the reason why it shuts down. It has shut down, and now it’s back and working. As we noticed, Hemant also has an electric car you charge your car using the current from solar system Does it meet all the needs requirements of the house? including the charge of the car? Yes, all our needs. Our load includes 2 airconditioning, 1 electric car, In North India It’s very hot in summers, comparatively less cold but need heaters Car consumes 5-6 units. The total home load is 30 units on a hot day. The solar plant gives 27-30 units. on an average 23 units. Solar Energy meets my yearly consumption. Entire bill is 1000-1200 Rs for 2 months. which is very low for a 2 storey building house. The actual figures are very less compared to the load. Thank you very much, Hemant for all the information. that you explained to our viewers in detail. about setting up solar panels in house. Thank you very much.

  1. Vry nice.. mai abhi 1kw ka off grid system use kr rha hoon ghar pe.. mera bijli ka bill 1200 rs ata hain 3mahina mei. Aab mai 5kw on-grid system lgwana chtahoon.

  2. Real life burden on the grid and other taxpayers is what net metering is. This system gives power only during daytime and draws power from the grid when peak power is needed at dusk and during nighttime. This destabilizes the grid and will cause it to collapse if everyone did this. This is only viable because few people are doing this.

  3. I think its one of the best video available on youtube regarding solar knowledge. Salute to this guy. Such a deep knowledge.

  4. Good video but 12.32 there is no chance of electric shock if you touch the panel no matter if it's wet or not. Earthing is provided to frame always to protect from lighning and surge but even without earthing you don't get shock at all. Unless and until live wire from mains is connected to panel frame and frame is not having earthing.

  5. thanks for the captions was a life saver as I'm from Tamil Nadu and I don't know Hindi keep up the electrifying work guys love y'all

  8. In Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh, electric dept officers flatly denies to talk on ON-grid solar panel system. Now what to do. Can i install it without any permission from authority.

  9. just use thicker gauge cable for lower voltage system to eliminate heating issues or try to use higher voltage configuration… all cables are the same they carry a current… on grid solar systems operate at higher voltage and less current so difference is negligible make sure the cable supports the amperage of your system…

  10. Good video, I want to install On Grid,4 KW AC solar Panels. How much it will cost to me in Lucknow with installation, earthing & metering ? Is there any subsidy available ? How it will be.? Regards &thanks.
